The forest playground is one of the most popular recreation areas on Fanoe, for children AND adults. Here you find playground equipment, a barbecue area and hiking trails. The playground is located at the Pælebjergvej, at the end of the concrete road. It can be reached by bicycle or by car. If you take the bus you get off at the station at the parking place Sønderho Gl. Fuglekøje and then you follow the road »Tolvteskiftevej« towards West. This walk takes about 10-15 minutes. The forest playground was built by using the beautiful nature without damaging the plantation. Material for the equipment is taken from the dune plantation. The only exception is the scultpure “Snow White and the 7 dwarfs" by the artists Julius and Vitalija Urbanavicius from Lithuania. These scultpures are made of oak wood.
Furthermore, there is a roofed barbecue area with about 50 seats. At the picnic place there is a barbecue grill and we would like to ask you to only use charcoal briquets due to fire hazard. For the same reason it may occur at some points that it is forbidden to use the barbecue grill.
The area is also ideal for walks. North of the forest playground there is the Pælebjerg, the highest point on Fanø (21 meters).
A tour through the dune area South West of the playground is also highly recommended. There is an ongoing project of recreating the original dune area with its water holes and Wadden Sea area. This has made it possible for the original fauna to return.

The Duck Decoys are located between Rindby and Sønderho.
A duck decoy is a kind of large scale trap consisting of a pond from which side canals lead off, constructed in order to catch wild ducks. Fanø was one of the few places in Denmark where six duck decoys were constructed. Some of these were in use until 1931, when the use of duck decoys was prohibited by revision of the game legislation.
The Albue Duck Decoy is situated in a beautiful, protected area at the Albue Bay. Today it is a museum. The duck decoy is open for guests: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1.30 p.m. – 5 p.m. in the period from June 29th to September 3rd and October 19th to 22nd .. Admission: 15 DKK for adults, 10 DKK for children. There are benches and tables where you can have a picnic.
The Sønderho Old Duck Decoy has recently been renovated and there is an ongoing exhibition, where you can learn about the duck decoys, nature and birds. From the bird watching tower you have a beautiful view over the Wadden Sea. You get to the decoy by following the path from the parking lot close to the road between Nordby and Sønderho. It is open daily (Please remember to close the gate after you). Entrance free.
