One of the highlights on Fanoe are the Seals. See and experience the large flocks of seals in their natural enviroment. The is a huge population of seals in the Wadden Sea. The population of the Harbor Seal is approx. 3000. The population of the Grey Seal is also growing fast.
The seals are best spotted at low tide, when they rest on the now dry banks of sand. On Fanoe you will find find a huge population at the bank called Galgerev, south west of Sønderho and at the bank north of the sailing route between Fanoe and Skallingen. But from time to time you may see the seals rest on the bank at the harbour entrance in Nordby.
From late spring the seals will gather at the banks in the Wadden Sea - because the cows give birth to their cups in June and July.
A newborn cup weighs approx ten kg. The cup can only be feed at low tide, when the seals are on dry land. It is very important not to disturb the seals. Keep your distance, whether on foot or in a boat.
The seals on Fanoe can be experienced on a safari on foot to the bank at Galgerev or by boat to the bank at Grådyb.
