The Fanoe Kite Fliers Meeting in June.

The Fanø International Kite Festival attracts each year up to 5000 kitefliers from all over the world and thousands of spectators.

The climax of the festival is the four day Fanø International Kitefliers Meeting, where everybody shows up with all their kites. From morning to evening the sky is filled with kites in any shape and color. This festival is for everybody, it's a non commercial gathering and everybody is having a party. most of the kitefliers stay for a week, either before or after the actual Kite Fliers Meting, so we actually have two weeks of intense kite flying.

There are numerous activites during the four days. Workshops, shows with historical kites, the Kite Part and the famous kite auction. Kite fliers are donating kites and parts for kites for the auction, and all income from the auction are send to an aid agency in Colombia.

It all started in the summer of 1985, when the then young Wolfgang Schimmelpfenning from Hamburg, Germany went to Fanø with a few friends to check out the island. it was such a fun flying kites ond the huge beach, that they decided to came back the next year and invite som more kite flying friends. From there is has been growing and growing, being now the biggest in the world, but it's still Wolfgang and his friend Rainer Kregovski, who are the driving force behind the festival.
